Hair loss is the undesired and unconscious shedding of hair. It affects both men and women. However, this condition is much more common in men. The most common type of hair loss in men is the male pattern baldness.

Baldness is caused by the accumulation of a testosterone byproduct dyhodrotestosterone on the basis of the hair around the follicle of the hair. As a result, it grows smaller and weaker to a point where it is no longer able to sustain and grow new hairs. The exact reason why this occurs is not known yet. It is believed that baldness is mostly hereditary and can be inherited form both sides- from the mother and the father. Other factors such as poisoning with heavy metals, bad eating diet, stress, medication side effects and bad way of life can also significantly affect hair loss.

Male pattern baldness appears in the following way. First, there is a gradual receding of the hair line on the forehead, mostly on the temples. Then, the hair on the crown of the head starts thinning and eventually the first bald spots appear. Gradually, those grow and meet forming the typical U-shape or horse shoe on the head. The rest of the hair remaining on the scalp is much thinner, weaker and grows and regenerates slowly.

Hair loss has a pretty big effect on men. It affects their self-image and self-esteem. It causes depression and has an effect on how they communicate and interact with other people at work and in their private live. This is especially true when it comes to relationships with people from the opposite sex.

So far there is no completely effective product for the treatment of hair loss. There are certain lotions that have shown some results in slowing down and even re-growing hair in a portion of men. However, the effects disappear immediately after the man stops using the product.
